We didn´t want to spend only one night at one place since this means a lot of lost time with packing and unpacking. So we stayed in the La Eremita Hotel of the Horizontes chain for two nights.
The landscape is really interresting since the mogotes, which are visible all around the Viñales valley once have been created out of underground rivers that hollowed out the ground which then crushed down and the surface lowered about a few hundred meters in average. There are also very interesting roads leading through that landscape and therefore a car is very useful there. Do not try to take the road from Santa Lucia to San Cayetano which is in a very, very bad condition.
Also did we visit the Mural de la Prehistoria which is a huge painting on the wall of one of the mogotes.
In Pinar del Rio itself you can visit the Fabrica de tobacos, but it´s a small factory and outside there are plenty of jovenes which try to sell you cigars of unknown origin. I´m smoking one of those right now, and can´t complain since I do not know much about cigars...
...But now, see for yourself.
